Derek Samagalski to skip Nunavut-based team next season
Derek Samagalski is heading north next season.
Samagalski announced Friday he will skip a team based out of Iqaluit, Nunavut, with third Sheldon Wettig, second Brady St. Louis and lead Christian Smitheram.
The 40-year-old from Carberry, Man., has made nine appearances at the Brier while playing front-end for skips Rob Fowler, Reid Carruthers, Mike McEwen and Brad Jacobs. He earned bronze during his Brier debut in 2012 with Team Fowler.
Samagalski captured a Grand Slam of Curling title with Team Carruthers, winning the inaugural Champions Cup in 2016.
He parted ways with Team Carruthers last November and played third for skip Jacques Gauthier in Manitoba playdowns, reaching the final eight.
