De Cruz edges Ulsrud in extra to win Baden Masters
Peter de Cruz captured the Baden Masters title edging Thomas Ulsrud 6-5 in an extra end during Sunday’s final in Switzerland.
The Geneva, Switzerland, crew finished the opening leg of the Curling Champions Tour with an undefeated 7-0 record. De Cruz throws second stones for the team, which also features lead Valentin Tanner, third Claudio Pätz, and fourth Benoit Schwarz.
Ulsrud, from Oslo, Norway, limited de Cruz to a single in the seventh to hold the hammer coming home, but wrecked on a guard with his first skip stone in eight. Schwarz capitalized making a double takeout with his last to sit four and eliminate Ulsrud’s chance of scoring the winning deuce. Ulsrud hit and stuck for a point to force the extra end.
Schwarz came through in the clutch again with an open draw to the four-foot circle on his final stone in the extra end to secure the championship.
