Carruthers leaving Stoughton after Players’ to skip own team

Winnipeg’s Reid Carruthers will play his final tournament with Jeff Stoughton at the Players’ Championship.

Carruthers, who throws lead stones, will return to skipping his own team next season recruiting Braeden Moskowy at third, former teammate Derek Samagalski at second and Colin Hodgson at lead.

Moskowy leaves Regina’s Brock Virtue while Hodgson departs from Charley Thomas’s team in Calgary. Samagalski, who previously played with Carruthers when they reached the 2006 Manitoba provincial final, returns after a stint with Rob Fowler’s team in Brandon, Man.

Carruthers joined Stoughton in 2010 and won the Brier and world championships in 2011 and the National Grand Slam of Curling title in 2013 during his tenure.
