Carruthers, Cameron gain ground in world rankings

A couple of Manitoba teams saw positive gains this week in the world rankings.

Winnipeg’s Team Reid Carruthers climbed four spots into No. 11 on the men’s side following a quarterfinal finish during the Henderson Metal Fall Classic this past weekend in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

After dropping into the C-side of the triple knockout, Carruthers earned three consecutive wins over Team Charlie Robert, Team Magnus Ramsfjell and Team Lukas Klima to qualify for the playoffs. Carruthers’ run ended with a 7-2 loss to Team Marco Hösli in the quarterfinals.

It was a good rebound week for Team Carruthers after going one-and-done in the single-elimination PointsBet Invitational and winless at 0-3 through the HearingLife Tour Challenge.

Meanwhile, Team Kate Cameron of St. Adolphe moved up two places into No. 16 on the women’s side with a runner-up result in the Hack2House Alberta Curling Series Event 1 in Beaumont, Alberta. Cameron lost to Team Youbeen Park 5-2 in the final.

It was the second final for Cameron this season in Beaumont after finishing runner-up in the Hack2House Alberta Curling Series women’s major in September.

Tuesday marked the qualification cutoff date for the KIOTI National, the third Grand Slam of Curling event of the season, running Nov. 26 to Dec. 1 in St. John’s, N.L.
