We’re profiling all 24 teams, one per day, to get ready for the return of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling leading up to the start of the Humpty’s Champions Cup.

Day 20: Team Fleury

Fleury will return to the lineup for the Humpty’s Champions Cup after missing the Scotties Tournament of Hearts to take care of her young daughter, Nina, who was diagnosed with infantile spasms, a seizure disorder, in November.

Two-time Scotties Tournament of Hearts winner Chelsea Carey filled in for Fleury during the Canadian women’s curling championship in February and is going to spare again during the Princess Auto Players’ Championship.

Carey skipped the Wild Card One squad to a 6-6 round-robin record in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and finished tied for sixth place in the championship pool.

Fleury, from Sudbury, Ont., captured her first Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling women’s title last season at the 2019 Masters in North Bay and not too far from her hometown. Team Fleury lost just once during the week in pool play to Team Yoshimura but took the rematch in the championship game 7-5 with their skip shooting 91 per cent.

It was the second major for Njegovan, Fyfe and MacCuish, who also captured the 2016 BOOST National in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., with skip Kerri Einarson. They also claimed Tour Challenge Tier 2 women’s titles in 2015 and 2017.
