Team McEwen has had quite the wild ride recently. The Winnipeg club played through provincial playdowns in February mostly as a trio with skip Mike McEwen hospitalized due to chickenpox. McEwen returned in time for the final but came up short against Team Reid Carruthers for the Viterra Championship.

The Fort Rouge CC foursome had a second shot at entering the Brier defeating fellow Winnipeg crew Team Jason Gunnlaugson for the wildcard berth. McEwen finished with a 7-4 round-robin record and just missed the playoffs in fifth place.

They successfully defended the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic title, a World Curling Tour event in Tempe, Ariz., in January. McEwen was runner-up to Team Kevin Koe at the Canadian Olympic curling trials in December.

Team McEwen has captured six Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling titles including the inaugural Elite 10 in 2015.

McEwen is currently fifth in the Bonus Cup standings qualifying for the playoffs at three Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling tournaments with semifinal results at the Masters and Boost National.

The 2018 Princess Auto Elite 10 runs March 15-18 at Winnipeg’s St. James Civic Centre. It’ll be one of the last events to watch Team McEwen in action as they announced they’ll be disbanding at the end of the season.
