Elite 10 teams in 10 days – Howard

Over the course of 10 days, we’re profiling all 10 teams set to compete in the 2018 Princess Auto Elite 10. Day 6: Team Glenn Howard.

Glenn Howard is a four-time world and Brier champion and has won 17 Ontario Tankard titles. Howard holds the record for most wins at the Brier, regardless of position, at 159.

Team Howard finished runner-up to Team Epping at the Ontario Tankard in February. Howard headed to Pyeongchang, South Korea, to coach Great Britain’s women’s team, skipped by Eve Muirhead, at the Winter Olympics where they finished fourth.

“Super spare” Adam Spencer will fill in for third Richard Hart at the 2018 Princess Auto Elite 10.

Howard has won 16 titles in the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling and is second only to Kevin Martin (18) on the all-time list. The first for Howard came at the inaugural Players’ Championship in 1993 while playing third for his brother, Russ Howard.

David Mathers and Scott Howard, who is Glenn’s son, captured the Players’ Championship in 2012 while playing with Team Epping. Coincidentally, Team Epping defeated Team Howard in that final.

Spencer has subbed on Team Howard before most notably during the 2016 Ontario Tankard where he helped them capture the provincial title.

The 2018 Princess Auto Elite 10 runs March 15-18 at Winnipeg’s St. James Civic Centre.
