Laura Walker to sub on Team Homan for 2 GSOC events

Laura Walker is adding a couple more weeks to her schedule in the bubble.

The Edmonton skip will fill in on Rachel Homan’s team during the two Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling events set to take place next month at Calgary’s WinSport Arena. After delaying the start of its season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the series returns with the Humpty’s Champions Cup, April 14-18, followed by the Princess Auto Players’ Championship, April 20-25.

Homan, who skipped Ontario to a silver medal at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts last month, is due to give birth to her second child soon. The Ottawa-based Team Homan, ranked eighth in the world, also includes third Emma Miskew, second Sarah Wilkes and lead Joanne Courtney.

Walker, who is originally from Scarborough, Ont., skipped Alberta to bronze in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and played with Homan in the past winning the Canadian junior women’s championship and world junior silver medal in 2010. She subbed at second on Team Homan for a couple of games during the 2019 Players’ Championship in Toronto. Walker also won back-to-back Canadian university championships with Wilkes in 2011 and 2012.
