John Morris joins Kevin Koe’s team

He’s back: Eleven-time Grand Slam champion John Morris has linked up with skip Kevin Koe.

The Calgary-based club announced Tuesday that Morris is joining forces with Koe, B.J. Neufeld and Ben Hebert.

“We’re thrilled to add a player with such an impressive resume to our lineup as we focus our goal on the 2022 Olympics,” Koe said in a team statement.

Team Koe parted ways with second Colton Flasch on Monday.

Morris has captured Olympic gold medals in men’s curling (2010) and mixed doubles (2018) and is a three-time Brier champion. The 41-year-old from Canmore, Alta., had stepped back from team play, focusing on mixed doubles, and also pinch-hitting when needed as a sub on Team Koe during the 2019 KIOTI Tractor Tour Challenge while Neufeld was away on paternity leave and as the alternate for Ontario’s Team Epping at this year’s Brier.

Morris was the skip and Koe threw third when they originally played together from 2003-06 and won their first Grand Slam title at the 2004 Players’ Championship. The team has not said what their lineup formation will be for next season.
