Jennifer Jones defeats Krista McCarville to kick off BOOST National

NORTH BAY, Ont. — Team Jennifer Jones started the BOOST National strong with a 7-4 victory over Team Krista McCarville during Tuesday’s opening draw at Memorial Gardens.

The all-Canadian matchup was textbook curling to start for Jones as her club scored deuces in the first and third ends while holding McCarville to lone points in the second and fifth.

Jones continued to pile on the points and counted three in the sixth for a 7-2 advantage. Team McCarville cut the deficit in half by counting a couple of points in the seventh, however, Team Jones ran their opponents out of rocks in the final frame.

It’s a return to a familiar venue for Jones, who captured her second career women’s world championship at Memorial Gardens in 2018.

Elsewhere in the opening draw, Canada’s Team Kerri Einarson trounced Team EunJung Kim of South Korea 10-1 in only five ends thanks to a huge steal of six points in the fourth.

Japan’s Team Fujisawa also had a fast start in Draw 1 breezing to a 9-3 victory over Canada’s Team Homan. Fujisawa scored three in the first, forced Homan to a single in the second, added three more points in the third and a steal of two in the fourth for an 8-1 hold at the break. Homan scored a deuce in five to chip away at the gap but shook hands after Fujisawa tacked a single on the board in six.

Sweden’s Team Wranå scored three in the sixth and stole three in the seventh to finish off a 9-4 victory over Canada’s Team Duncan.
